Takara Sachi Yoshi Kokichi
Takara Kokichi Sensei was
born in Oroku Village, Okinawa. At a very young age, he learned ti from
his father. He moved to mainland Japan at the age of sixteen. There he
met Sugihara Kenpu and studied Shuri-ti Shorin-Ryu Karate. Sugihara
Sensei's Dojo was also a Shibu (branch school) of Konishi Yasuhiro of
Shinto Shizen-ryu karate. As a result, Takara Sensei was exposed to a
broad base of waza. After ten years of study, Takara Sensei returned to
Okinawa.
Takara Sensei has a keen interested in the history of the Okinawan
Martial arts and is a historian of Ryukyuan busaa in his own right.
Through his research, he met and trained with many teachers from across
the island. This path eventually led him to the Shinbukan and Akamine
Sensei in 1975. In addition to Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai, Takara
Sensei also learned Funakoshi-Ryu karate from Akamine Dai Sensei.
He is a cheerful, powerful practitioner of an eclectic blend of karate and
Kobudo that practiced for many years at the Hombu Dojo. He influenced
many students over the years in his humble way by correcting and
tweaking. Supplying back ground information of why things are done a
certain way. This put him close at hart with many young students. He now
has his own dojo in Oroku where he is working on the next generation of
martial arts. He is surely missed in the Hombu. The makiwari in the Dojo
have breathed a shy of relieve not being punished by him so
relentlessly.
