Jun Caballero
Jun started Shorin Ryu Karate training
under an old friend at the age of 14 in 1967 and formal training in 1968
at the Manila YMCA. He graded Shorin Ryu Karate Shodan in 1971. From
1973 to 1983 he practiced Ta't Kon Tou (Art of Chinese Boxing) at the
Manila YMCA. 1975 saw Jun joining the Arnis Philippines movement as a
committee member. The creation of the Philippine Arnis Tournament Rules
& Regulations was introduced during this time.
Jun visited Okinawa for the first time in 1997, and participated in
Karate Kata in the first Okinawa Karate do & Kobudo World Tournament
held at the new Prefecture Hall of Martial Arts, Naha City, Okinawa. He
met Minoru Yamagawa who was practicing Kobudo at the Hombu Dojo of
Akamine Sensei. Yamagawa san taught Jun Chikinshitahaku no Sai and
introduced him to the Hombu Dojo’s Ryukyu Kobudo Family.
Jun, with the help of Danielo Guia and Jojo Delos Santos, was
instrumental in forming the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai, Philippine
Dokokai and he served as Chairman for this association between 1999 and
2003.
Since 1999 Jun has had the opportunity to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia as a Karate Instructor where he is at present still teaching.
August of 1999 saw Jun awarded the rank of Nanadan in Shorin Ryu Karate
Shidokan by Hanshi Katsuya Miyahira in Okinawa.
He was also awarded Shodan in Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai at the
Hombu Dojo, Okinawa in 1999.
Sandan was awarded to Jun in 2003 by Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai,
Hombu Dojo, Okinawa. With this came the prestigious Instructor's Licence
and Branch Dojo Certificate.
Tournament Participation.
August 1997 - Karate Kata in "World Karate do & Kobudo Okinawa
Tournament" held in the Prefecture Hall of Martial Arts, Okinawa, Japan;
August 1999 - Coaching in Karate do / Kobudo Kata (senior). Category in
"1st Traditional Okinawa Karate do & Kobudo World Tournament" in
Okinawa, Japan.
August 2003 – Participating in the senior Category in Kobudo Kata in
"Okinawa Karate do & Kobudo World Tournament", Okinawa.
Jun’s personal mission is to propagate Shorin Ryu Karate Shidokan and
Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai in the Middle East.
